Building Codex Deployment Engineering at OpenAI.

Hi, I'm Charlie.

Right now I'm helping build the Codex Deployment Engineering team at OpenAI. We work with engineering teams adopting Codex, helping them move faster through the ordinary, messy, important parts of software development: reading code, writing code, testing it, reviewing it, and getting it into production.

Lately, I've been focused on recruiting and on making Codex useful inside some of OpenAI's lighthouse customers, including Cisco and NVIDIA. I also built the /init command that ships with Codex CLI, and I've shipped a bunch of small admin features in ChatGPT, including settings and managed policies for Codex. I like the loop where you talk to an admin or engineer, understand the thing that is slowing them down, and then ship something immediately useful.

Before OpenAI, I worked at Twilio. I helped launch Twilio's Salesforce integration, worked with nonprofit and government customers through Twilio.org, and helped build the national vaccine finder text service during COVID. That service let people text their ZIP code to GETVAX and get nearby vaccine locations back on their phone.

Before Twilio, I worked at Code for America with New York City government, at TechChange recording online courses for pharmacists in Africa to better diagnose and treat malaria, and with USAID in Tanzania.

I live in Berkeley, California. Outside of work I run, bike, camp, read about local history, and write occasionally.
